Supporting Ovarian Cancer
Story
I'm taking part in the 2016 Melbourne Marathon Festival and hoping to raise much needed funds for OCRF.
My beautiful friend Dr. Francine Marques is an ovarian cancer survivor. It's a blessing to have her here with us today. Throughout this tough times, she still manage to give love and help women who are battling cancer. She built a website called 'Chemo and Beauty' (http://chemoandbeauty.wixsite.com/chemo-and-beauty) in the hope to inspire each other to feel beautiful during and after treatment. She continues to help support women all over the world who are battling cancer today. As a proud friend, the least I could do is to help support Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation hoping that one day they'll find a way in detecting ovarian cancer early so women have better chances of survival. So....here I am....pleading with you for your generosity and kindness to drop any donation you could to help. Every dollar helps and your kindness will be rewarded in life :-)
This October, I’m going to be sweating it out and breaking my legs (running is not my best sport) doing my best to complete a 10km course through the streets of Melbourne and ending back at the world famous G :-) hooraaayyyy !
I feel honoured to be a part of this amazing race and helping a great cause, and I’d really appreciate your support in this endeavour.
Thank you for your support and together we are helping to make a difference :-)
Activity
Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation
Every eight hours, one woman dies from ovarian cancer in Australia. The key to changing this statistic is early detection.
Ovarian cancer is an insidious disease, often known as a “silent-killer” as symptoms are vague and often strike without warning. Unlike many other cancers there is no early detection test. Consequently ovarian cancer is often diagnosed in its late stages and only 29% of these women will survive beyond five years of diagnosis. In comparison, survival rates increase to 90% when ovarian cancer is detected and treated early.
The Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation is Australia’s pre-eminent ovarian cancer research body. Our goal is to raise ovarian cancer awareness and vital funds for the development of an early detection test that will save women’s lives.
We receive no government funding and rely on the support of our community and business supporters to assist in driving our research forward.
Together we can raise awareness of ovarian cancer in Australian communities and the importance of developing a detection test that identifies the level of ovarian cancer in a patient and its extent of advancement. A test that can greatly improve long-term survival rates of Australian women.
